For Windows 7/10 devices using Microsoft's built in wireless client
District laptops are set up by Technology Services to connect to our MUSD wireless networks. When taking the device outside the district, users can connect to other wireless networks to gain access to the Internet. This document explains how to do this on Windows 7 and 10 district computers with the built in Microsoft wireless client.
1. When you are out of range of the MUSD wireless network, log in as you normally would. The computer will use the most recent password you used to log in to the MUSD network (*note, you must log in to the computer at least once on the MUSD network BEFORE you can log in to the computer from outside the network - this login will create a local account on the computer for you to log in to when off-site).
2. Once logged in, you will need to verify that the wireless network card is turned on. If you find you are not seeing any wireless networks when attempting the steps below, verify that the wireless network card is on.
3. Now you need to connect to the network you want to access. In the systray (on the bottom, right hand side of the screen) you will see several icons and the time showing there. It is part of the start bar across the bottom of the screen. Click on the wireless icon to bring up the wireless network popup screen.

4. You should see a list of available wireless networks within range of your laptop. Find the wireless network you want to connect to and click the "connect" button.

5. If the network is secured with a password, you will now be prompted to enter that password (this password is not related to your district account, but to the wireless network you are connecting to). After entering the password, click the "next" or "OK" button.

6. On Windows 10 laptops, you may be prompted to allow your PC to be discoverable or not. To keep your device secure, you should select "No" unless you are on your own personal wireless network at home.
On Windows 7 laptops, you may be prompted to select a location - Home, Work, or Public. To keep your device secure, you should select Public network unless you are on your own person wireless network at home (then select Home network).

7. You should now be connected to the wireless network.
