The new MUSD MacBooks download and install programs automatically when they are initially logged into by the new user of the laptop. Two of those programs are Microsoft Office and the Microsoft Office activation software. The Microsoft Office program is a large download that can take a couple of hours to download and install depending on the speed of the Wi-Fi network the laptop is connected to. Due to security settings with newer versions of MacOS, MUSD is not able to customize these installers, so end users will need to make the final settings once the programs have completed installation. This article will explain the steps that end users need to take.
Once Microsoft Office completes installation, users will see this Microsoft AutoUpdate Required Data Notice popup on their screen (popup might have a white background, this one is from a laptop with dark mode enabled).
Please click the OK button to continue.
The first time users open each of the Microsoft Office Apps (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), they will see this Get started with Office popup (popup might have a white background, this one is from a laptop with dark mode enabled).
DO NOT CLICK ON THE "Sign in or create account" BUTTON!
MUSD does not have Microsoft accounts, so users should click "Skip sign in" option at the bottom of the screen. This will show up for each Microsoft Office app the first time the user opens them.
If users get an option that states "Read only mode", the activation for Microsoft Office has not installed correctly. They should contact Technology Services to have the fixed.
As always, please contact Technology Services if you have any questions.
